    Watermelons

The Moroccan watermelon is renowned for its intense red flesh, naturally sweet taste and refreshing texture. Grown in brightly lit regions, it is one of the most sought-after fruits during the summer months, both for the local and international markets. Thanks to high-performance farming methods, Morocco exports large volumes of watermelons to Europe, the Middle East and Africa every year.

    Main growing regions

Watermelons grow best in well-drained sandy soils in warm, dry climates:

    • Zagora - Tata: very early, first harvest in March.

    • Souss-Massa (Taroudant, Chtouka): high production, well-calibrated fruit.

    • Beni Mellal - Tadla: summer production zone.

    • Guelmim - Assa: excellent yield, large size.

    • Dakhla (greenhouse test): innovative off-season cultivation.
