    Red Squash

Moroccan red squash, also known as potimarron, is a variety of squash highly prized for its sweet flesh, melt-in-the-mouth texture and slightly fragrant chestnut taste. Its orange-red skin, good keeping qualities and versatility in the kitchen make it a product with great commercial potential. Thanks to a favorable climate and fertile soils, Morocco produces red squash every year for export to Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

    Main growing regions

Red squash is grown in well-drained areas, in open fields, with good exposure to the sun:

    • Doukkala - El Jadida: high yield, homogeneous size.

    • Gharb - Kenitra: light, sandy soil, premium quality.

    • Tadla - Béni Mellal: very good sugar content, long shelf life.

    • Haouz - Marrakech: winter production.

    • Fès - Meknès: emerging zone, test on early varieties.

Harvest: from May to Augustdepending on zone and crop cycle.
